On April 28, 2025, a historic power outage affected Spain, Portugal, and France, leaving entire countries without electricity for more than 10 hours. Some areas were still not fully recovered at the time of writing this blog.

In addition to the power outage, there were telecommunications disruptions and many modes of transportation — such as subways, trains, and airplanes — were halted.
Never before has our dependence on electricity been so evident.

As soon as we were able to reconnect, we received many questions from our community about how our products can help during a power outage.

What is a power outage and why can it happen?

A power outage is a temporary interruption in the electricity supply that can affect a home, a city, or even entire regions. The causes can vary: network overloads, extreme weather conditions, or unexpected technical failures.

Although some power outages are resolved within minutes, others can last much longer and significantly impact daily life.

While yesterday’s outage was an extraordinary event, it reminds us that large-scale electricity failures can happen for reasons beyond technical issues.

In recent years, cyberattacks have also caused major disruptions, such as when Russia repeatedly shut down Ukraine’s power grid even before the 2022 invasion.

The European Union has recently advised citizens to be prepared for such scenarios.
Although it might initially seem alarmist, yesterday’s event shows that preparation is not about fear — it’s about being ready for the unexpected.

What impact can a power outage have on your home?

The lack of electricity can cause serious problems:
